Wen. Austin et al., THE C-14 AGE OF THE ICELANDIC VEDDE ASH - IMPLICATIONS FOR YOUNGER-DRYAS MARINE RESERVOIR AGE CORRECTIONS, Radiocarbon, 37(1), 1995, pp. 53-62
Increased marine C-14 reservoir ages from the surface water of the Nor
th Atlantic are documented for the Younger Dryas period. We use terres
trial and marine AMS C-14 dates from the time of deposition of the Ice
landic Vedde Ash to examine the marine C-14 reservoir age. This change
d from its modem North Atlantic value of ca. 400 yr to ca. 700 yr duri
ng the Younger Dryas climatic event. The increased marine reservoir ag
e has implications for both comparing climatic time series dated by C-
14 and understanding palaeoceanographic changes that generated the inc
rease.
