Abstract
The folded direct optical transitions in a recently proposed structure -the twinning superlattice-in germanium are calculated and discussed. The absorption coefficient of this structure is found to exceed the bu lk Ge value by at least an order of magnitude, but is still small comp ared to that for direct-gap semiconductors.
