Magnetic polarons formed by holes in semimagnetic quantum wells are st
udied theoretically. The theory is based on the formalism of the pseud
ospin and the anisotropic g-factor tenser of the hole. It yields the d
irection of the total moment and energy of the polaron as functions of
external magnetic fields. Polarization characteristics of light- and
heavy-exciton luminescence are shown to be strongly influenced by the
magnetic polaron formation.
