Although the existence of multiple sclerosis (MS) in pediatric patient
s is no longer disputed (as it was at the beginning of this century),
the disease is so rare in children as to make its diagnosis difficult.
Two cases of MS in patients aged 13 years 9 months and 11 years 7 mon
ths, respectively, are reported. Both patients received corticosteroid
therapy. Specific features of MS in children include greater female p
redominance, a different pattern of clinical form distribution with mo
re relapsing/remitting forms and less chronic progressive forms, and a
high frequency at presentation of ocular manifestations, pure sensory
disturbances, and gait disorders.
