The management of community-acquired pneumonia before hospitalization
during the period January 1992-January 1994 was retrospectively studie
d. The major reasons for admission were : pneumonia (32), fever (13),
confusion (13), abdominal pain (9), chest pain (8), grippal syndrome (
6), generalized weakness and fatigue (6) and others causes (13). Among
the patients hospitalized for pneumonia, a previous antibiotic therap
y was given to 15 patients : cephalosporins (7), amoxicillin (7), fluo
roquinolones (1). Nine of them were early hospitalized (length of trea
tment < 72 h, no index of severity), Our study emphasizes the need of
a better knowledge of the different semiological aspects of pneumonia
and a better application of the rules of antibiotic prescription.
