S. Callaert et al., TEICOPLANIN ADMINISTRATION IN BURN PATIEN TS - INFLUENCE OF GRAVITY PARAMETERS, Medecine et maladies infectieuses, 25, 1995, pp. 796-800
The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate if Unit Burn Stand
ard (UBS) and Time of Administration After Injury (TAAI) could be pred
ictive factors for the determination of a suitable dose regimen. Data
were obtained from the medical records of each patient treated between
1991 and 1993. Patients with impaired renal fonction were excluded. T
hirty patients were included in the study. They were divided (a) in tw
o groups : group 1 for UBS < 75 (n = 19) and group 2 for UBS > 75 (n =
11) and (b) in 3 groups : group A for TAAI < 10 (n = 10), group B for
11 < TAAI < 21 (n = 13) and group C for TAAI > 21 (n = 7). The charac
teristics of patients were similar in all groups : age, serum creatini
ne, serum albumin. The mean daily loading dose was 18.9 +/- 5.5 mg/kg
during 3.6 +/- 1.7 days and the mean daily maintenance dose was 16.8 /- 7.1 mg/kg. The mean duration of treatment was 13.5 +/- 7.4 days. Th
ere was no significant difference between the groups with regard to an
y of the parameters investigated. The daily dose necessary to obtain t
herapeutic serum levels (trough level = 15-25 mg/l) was not significan
tly different in all groups. UBS and TAAI seem not to be predictive fa
ctors for the determination of the dose regimen in burn patients.
