Hj. Engelbrecht, THE IMPACT OF INTERNATIONAL-TRADE ON THE IN-HOUSE TRANSACTION SECTOR - EVIDENCE FROM THE UNITED-STATES, 1985-89, Applied economics letters, 2(3), 1995, pp. 60-63
This study investigates the impact of international trade on the 'in-h
ouse' transaction sector of US manufacturing industries over the perio
d 1985-89. Higher import (export) intensity is found to have a strongl
y (weakly) negative effect on the relative size of the sector. The nee
d for organizational restructuring seems especially urgent for 'high-t
ech' industries, which tend to have relatively large private bureaucra
cies.
