Bovine serum albumin and human serum albumin have been modified by gra
fting poly(amido amine) chains via a hydrogen-transfer addition reacti
on involving the available amino groups of the protein, in which the a
minic character of the latter is preserved. The chemical processes inv
olved are probably of general application for grafting multifunctional
polymeric chains on to proteins under very mild, non-denaturing condi
tions.
