D. Jones et al., COAL-BLACK HYPERPIGMENTATION AT BIRTH IN A CHILD WITH CONGENITAL ADRENAL HYPOPLASIA, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 33(2), 1995, pp. 323-326
Congenital adrenal hypoplasia has been estimated to occur in approxima
tely 1 of 12,500 births. Hyperpigmentation associated with this condit
ion typically appears gradually during a period of months to years. We
describe a newborn infant with profound hyperpigmentation in whom adr
enal crisis subsequently developed as a result of congenital adrenal h
ypoplasia.
