A. Alghamdi, DEVELOPMENT OF 2 TEST STATISTICS FOR THE ANALYSIS OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENTDEATHS FOR ELDERLY DRIVERS, Civil engineering systems, 12(2), 1995, pp. 105-114
Conducting traffic accident analysis is not an easy task. It requires
an appropriate tool to be used in such analysis besides the capability
of making use of this tool. One of the popular teals in this type of
analysis, used in this study, is statistics. Statistical techniques pr
ovide a variety of methods to analysts in order to make decisions from
data. In this paper, a likelihood ratio testing technique is used to
analyze motor vehicle deaths of elderly people over eleven years. Thes
e deaths are assumed to follow Poisson Distribution. Two test statisti
cs are developed. One is to observe any significant difference among t
hese deaths over time. The other is to investigate the pattern of the
occurrence of these deaths over the years. In addition, these two stat
istics are generalized to fit more application in the arena of traffic
analysis.
