Screen printing of palladium-doped carbon strips results in the constr
uction of disposable amperometric sensors for formaldehyde. These sens
ors rely on the strong electrocatalytic action of the dispersed pallad
ium particles contributing to the reduction of formaldehyde. The elect
rocatalytic behaviour, sensor optimization and analytical performance
are reported. The low detection limit (2 x 10(-6) mol l(-1)) is accomp
anied by a wide linear range and high selectivity. Application for ass
ays of various samples is demonstrated. The new single-use sensor stri
ps should facilitate on-site environmental and industrial monitoring o
f formaldehyde.
