MAIH(4) with M = Na, K, Rb and Cs were prepared in toluene or hexane f
rom an exchange reaction between LiAIH(4) and an halide of the corresp
onding metal dissolved in the medium as a Ziegler-type complex with tr
iethylaluminum. The best process involves the equimolar complexes MF-A
lEt(3) with fluorides. The four MAIH(4) were quantitatively obtained w
ith a purity > 99% (wt). RbAIH(4) and CsAIH(4) have the same barite-ty
pe structure as KAIH(4) (orthorhombic, Z = 4), with parameters (Angstr
om, +/- .002) a:b:c: 9.253:5.950:7.599; 9.981:6.075:7.953, respectivel
