Diagnostic imaging of the central airways has evolved from being the b
lind spot in the chest radiograph to involving complex imaging techniq
ues in a region of great pathologic diversity. Just as diagnostic imag
ing has become more sophisticated, so have the techniques now availabl
e for the surgical treatment of these disorders. Close cooperation and
consultation between the clinical and diagnostic teams will remain th
e hallmark of optimal patient care in this sophisticated diagnostic an
d treatment environment.
