Abstract
Artificial inoculation of sugarbeet with Cercospora beticola under fie ld conditions can be conducted by the use of in vitro prepared inoculu m. The fungus is grown on GrA at 26 degrees C and diffuse daylight. A homogenate of the non sporulating cultures is sprayed on the beets aft er closing the rows. First symptoms occurred 20 dpi in 1993 respective ly 11 dpi in 1994. Disease increased due to secondary infections. The described method might allow the screening of sugarbeet for resistance to C. beticola after a controlled inoculation.
