Abstract
The spectrum of heat-related illnesses ranges from simple syncope to l ife-threatening heatstroke. Persons of all ages can be affected. Heat edema, heat cramps, heat syncope, and heat exhaustion respond readily to simple management techniques. Treatment of heatstroke must include aggressive cooling, adequate fluid and electrolyte repletion, maintena nce of adequate cardiovascular performance, and prompt correction of a ny related or resulting complications.
