Abstract
A group of pediatric endocrinologists in the Twin Cities of Minneapoli s and St. Paul, Minnesota developed consensus guidelines for the diagn osis, monitoring, and treatment of children with short stature. These practice guidelines were developed with two goals in mind. First, we w ere responding to requests from primary practitioners to clarify their role and responsibilities in the diagnosis and monitoring of short ch ildren. Second, insurance companies and health maintenance organisatio ns needed input from pediatric endocrinologists regarding the standard of care for short stature and growth hormone therapy. This consensus state ment is based on current medical and scientific standards and wi ll require continuous revision as our medical knowledge changes and gr ows.
