H-1 and C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra of phosphatidyle
thanolamine plasmalogen were studied. Resonances in both spectra were
assigned by conventional one- and two-dimensional NMR techniques. Dist
inctive signals corresponding to the olefinic carbons near the vinyl e
ther group were shown to be the most useful in both qualitative and qu
antitative analysis. The plasmalogen content in different fish lipid s
amples, as determined by C-13-NMR spectroscopy, was in good agreement
with the data obtained by gas chromatography.
