We report on a 34-year-old male patient who developed generalized para
keratosis variegata lesions 4 years after suffering from pityriasis li
chenoides et varioliformis acuta. For further investigation of a possi
ble interrelationship between these two diseases of the parapsoriasis
group and their relationship to the T-celI type of cutaneous non-Hodgk
in-lymphoma, histological, immunohistological and molecularbiological
techniques were applied. We were able to demonstrate typical morpholog
ical features common to both diseases, and a polyclonal T-cell infiltr
ate in both. It is concluded that pityriasis lichenoides et variolifor
mis acuta and parakeratosis variegata are separate entities without mo
noclonal rearrangement or signs of malignancy.
