Stacked foil activation technique and Ge(Li) gamma ray spectroscopy ha
ve been used for the measurement of excitation functions of Au-197(alp
ha, xn) (x = 1 - 3), Au-197(alpha, 2pn) and Au-197(alpha, alpha n) rea
ctions up to 50 MeV. The experimental cross-sections were compared wit
h the predictions of pre-equilibrium hybrid model, as well as with the
more recent index model. A general agreement was found in all reactio
ns using initial exciton number n(0) = 4(4pOh) except for Au-197(alpha
, n) reaction, where index model gives fairly good agreement with n(0)
= 5(5pOh).
