Abstract
Factors ifluencing gastric emptying in patients with carcinoma of the pancreas are complex and varied. Symptoms of gastric stasis are common in patients with advanced cancer without overt duodenal involvement. Delayed gastric emptying has also been observed in one-quarter of pati ents with advanced pancreatic cancer undergoing gastrojejunostomy(1) T he aetiology of delayed gastric emptying remains obscure. The mechanis ms postulated for tumour-associated gastroparesis include autovagotomy secondary retroperitoneal nerve invasion tumour-related gastroparetic factor. The primary objective of this study was to examine gastric em ptying before operation in patients with carcinoma of the pancreas and to observe the effects of gastrojejunostomy on gastric function.
