Sc. Bayliss et al., FROM POROUS SILICON TO CLUSTERED MATRICES - A COMPARISON OF LOCAL STRUCTURES, Physica status solidi. b, Basic research, 190(1), 1995, pp. 85-89
Studies have been made of the local atomic structure of clustered and
porous silicon nanostructures, with the object of obtaining more infor
mation on the environments which exist in highly PL-efficient material
. In some structures the Si environments can be interpreted in terms o
f a small crystalline core surrounded by configurationally disordered
material. Finally, although the details of the individual mechanisms r
esponsible for the emission appear to be different for clustered and p
orous material, the overall behaviour can be linked to the sizes and d
imensionality of the units involved.
