The paper describes an in-line viewing system for use in stereo vision
and its practical implementation in 3-component, PIV studies in a win
d tunnel. The transformation equations, relating image co-ordinates to
object position, are developed and the significance of view matching
and quantisation in error propagation are discussed and the resulting
errors estimated. Directional ambiguity is resolved by pulse intensity
coding and the use of an intensity sensitive image tracking algorithm
