Abstract
We consider a modification of Meixner moment functional by adding a ma ss point at x = 0. We obtain the resulting orthogonal polynomials, ide ntify them as hypergeometric F-3(2) functions, and derive the second o rder difference equation which these polynomials satisfy. In such a wa y we give the solution to a problem raised by R. Askey (1991) in ''Ort hogonal Polynomials and Their Applications,'' p. 418, Baltzer AG Scien tific, (Basel). (C) 1995 Academic Press, Inc.
