Abstract
Knowledge of the conformation at the amide N atom of N-3-methoxyphenyl -2-(5-methoxyindole)carboxamide, C17H16N2O3, and N-methyl-N-phenyl-2-( 5-methoxyindole)carboxamide, C17H16N2O2, allows an interpretation of t he H-1 NMR behaviour of the two compounds. The structures and conforma tions of the two molecules are compared.
