1,7-BIS(ETHOXYCARBONYL)-3A-METHYL-4A-PHEN [4,3-A3',4'-D][1,5]BENZODIAZEPINE,C36H32N8O8.CHCL3

Double condensation of N-p-nitrophenyl-C -ethoxy-carbonylnitrilimine w ith 2-methyl-4-phenyl-1,5-benzodiazepine leads to two stereoisomers of the title compound, diethyl 3a-methyl-4a-phenyl-3,5-bis(p-nitro-pheny l)- -tetrahydro-3H-bis[1,2,4]triazoIo[4,3-a:3',4'-d][1 ,5]benzodiazepi ne-1,7-dicarboxylate trichloromethane solvate. The stereochemistry of the major derivative was established. The 3a-methyl and the 4a-phenyl groups are trans. The oxadiazoline rings are quite planar while the se ven-membered benzodiazepine ring adopts a C2 barrier conformation.
