Abstract
The asymmetric unit of the title structure, C16H10O3, consists of two molecules which have similar conformations, Each of the two pentagonal rings is planar, while the average dihedral angle between the two phe nyl rings within each molecule is 57.4 degrees. The molecules are held together by van der Waals forces, with the shortest intermolecular di stance being 2.914(11) Angstrom for O(3')... C(4)(1/2-x, -y, 1/2+z).
