The crystal structure of oxypentacyclo[19.3.1.1(3,7).1(9,13).1(15,19)]
octa- ,5,7(28),9,11,13(27),15,17,19(26),21,23-dodecaene, C48H64O2, has
been determined. The calix[4]arene is in the 1,3-alternate conformati
on. The OH-depleted phenyl rings are more coplanar with the plane of t
he methylene C atoms than the other two rings. Two phenyl rings show a
small boat-like distortion from planarity.
