Abstract
Mature zygotic embryos of Ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.) were cryopreserv ed following a simple dehydration treatment. Sixty three percent germi nation was obtained when embryos were dried to a moisture content of 1 2-14% prior to rapid freezing in liquid nitrogen. Embryos transferred to MS medium for 16-48h following excision required additional 0.4M su crose preculture to give some protection against freezing damage.
