Several researchers have reported a link between the development of a
solitary antral aspergillus sinusitis and the presence of zinc-contain
ing root canal obturating paste within the antrum. If diagnosed correc
tly, it is generally accepted that this type of sinusitis can be treat
ed effectively using surgical techniques alone. However, previous repo
rts have shown that this is not always the case and may result in prol
onged and inappropriate treatment of the condition. It is hoped that t
he reported case and literature review will assist both dental and med
ical practitioners in identifying affected patients and in the subsequ
ent instigation of correct treatment regimes.
