Abstract
The use of remotely sensed data offers a potential objective method fo r assessment of urban heat islands. Several studies that utilized sate llite derived data are reviewed and future prospects are presented. Th e use of satellite derived Normalized Difference Vegetation Index data and the potential use of Defense Meteorological Satellite Program sen sor data are reviewed in detail.
