Cellulose contents of fragile culms of field-grown barley mutants were
about 20% of those of corresponding isogenic normal strains, while th
ose of calluses and suspension-cultured cells of mutants were closer t
o those of corresponding normal strains. Apparently, normal barley str
ains did not develop secondary cell walls in culture.
