Abstract
The a priori calculation of the elastic moduli of oxide glasses was pr oposed by Makishima and Mackenzie. The application of these relations to halide glasses leads to values in relatively good agreement with th e experimental results - 54 instead of 55 GPa for the ZBLAN glass - al though the nature of the chemical bond is different.
