Aa. Ashour et al., THE KARYOTYPES OF CALICOPHORON-MICROBOTHRIUM AND CARMYERIUS-GREGARIUSFROM EGYPTIAN RUMINANTS, Journal of Helminthology, 69(2), 1995, pp. 107-111
The karyotypes of the two amphistomes Calicophoron microbothrium Fisch
oeder, 1901 and Carmyerius gregarius (Looss, 1896), Stiles and Goldber
ger, 1910 from Egyptian ruminants were studied using the air drying te
chnique. The two species have similar number of chromosomes (n = 9), b
ut differ in chromosome morphology. All the chromosomes of C. microbot
hrium are subtelocentric, except the first and the fifth are metacentr
ic, whereas the chromosomes of C. gregarius are submetacentric, subtel
ocentric and acrocentric. Some cells in the two species showed tetrapl
oidy. The results are discussed in terms of the phylogenetic relations
hip of different amphistomes.
