Abstract
Membrane silver-selective electrodes based on lipophilic acyclic thioe thers 1-6 are described. The potentiometric selectivities and Ag+ resp onses of these membranes have been determined and compared with membra nes based on macrocyclic thioethers. All tested thioethers show select ivity towards Ag+ versus other interfering cations, except mercury. Ho wever, the best values (log k(Ag,M) < -5) are obtained for acyclic thi oether 4. The highest Ag(I)/Hg(II)selectivities< 10(24)) are found for membranes based on acyclic thioethers 2 and 4.
