L. Franco et al., GASTRIC EICOSANOID SYNTHESIS IN NORMAL SUBJECTS AND ALCOHOLICS AFTER ETHANOL STIMULATION, The Italian Journal of Gastroenterology, 27(5), 1995, pp. 244-247
This work studied the effect of different ethanol concentrations on th
e eicosanoid accumulation in human gastric incubates of healthy volunt
eers and chronic alcoholics, determining the in vitro eicosanoid relea
se both in the basal condition and after different ethanol concentrati
ons, The basal release of PGE(2) and LTC(4) in alcoholics is higher th
an in healthy volunteers, Various alcohol concentrations cause an incr
ease in LTC(4) and PGE(2) in healthy volunteers; we observed no LTC(4)
increase in alcoholics and although PGE(2) levels increased after 20%
ethanol, they remained constant at higher ethanol concentrations.
