Copper and cobalt complexes of the half unit 2,6-diacetylpyridine mono
(ethylenediamine) have been prepared and characterized using analytica
l, spectral, and magnetic measurements. The oxidation polymerization o
f these complexes on Pt electrodes has been carried out in CH3CN and d
imethylformamide (DMF). The redox properties of the formed polymeric f
ilms have been examined by cyclic voltammetry. In both DMF and CH3CN,
the Cu complex formed a stable film while the Co complex formed a stab
le film only in CH3CN. The films showed single pairs of coupled peaks
corresponding to Cu(II)/Cu(I) and Co(II)/Co(I) redox systems.
