Abstract
We report on a 73-year-old woman with mitral stenosis and an echocardi ographically and angiocardiographically proven vascularized mass at th e superior part of the left atrium. The patient was put on anticoagula tion with phenprocoumon. An echocardiographical follow up 10 months la ter revealed the disappearance of this mass; only a stalklike structur e was present at the site of the former mass. Clinical presentation, e chocardiographic and angiocardiographic findings are consistent with a vascularized atrial thrombus. Nevertheless, currently available imagi ng procedures cannot definitely discriminate vascularized thrombus, my xoma and hemangioma.
