The using of the continuation methods for studying the static bifurcat
ion behaviour of the two-dimensional one phase model of the packed tub
ular reactors is discussed. Practical computational aspects for carryi
ng out this analysis are presented in some detail. The mathematical mo
del is discretized using a compact fourth order finite difference sche
me. Three continuation algorithms are tested. As linear solver in the
continuation algorithm, the GMRES method is used. The analysis of the
region of multiple steady states is made for the nonisothermal-nonadia
batic regime. The key parameter is the Damkohler number. Some results
concerning the influence of the dimensionless adiabatic temperature ri
se and that of the Blot number are presented. Two values of the axial
mass Peclet number greater than 100 are considered.
