Abstract
Recently we proposed a preemptive protocol handling multiple classes o f traffic on a slotted ring LAN. In this paper we analyze the protocol for voice-data integration and present a comparative study of its per formance with other well-known ring LAN protocols. We derive approxima te closed form expressions for response time distribution of both voic e and data traffic in their transform forms. The analysis is validated through simulation. Computation of important performance metrics is d iscussed. Through extensive simulation we compare the performance of o ur protocol with token ring based FDDI, slotted ring bassed Cambridge Fast Ring (CFR), and register-insertion ring based TORNET2 for a wide range of workloads.
