Chronic immune thrombocytopenia responds to steroids and splenectomy i
n approximately 80% of the patients. Intravenous immunoglobulin, plasm
apheresis, combination chemotherapy, and androgens may help in refract
ory cases. This report describes the course and management of refracto
ry immune thrombocytopenia after heart transplantation.
