COMPUTER-AIDED DETERMINATION OF WOOD SPEC IES USING THE DELTA INTKEY SOFTWARE/

The DELTA/INTKEY system is a package of computer programs suitable for the management of taxonomic data and interactive object identificatio n. At the Institute of Wood Biology and Wood Protection of the Federal Research Center of Forestry and Forest Products, Hamburg, and the Woo d Biology Department of the University of Hamburg, it is presently emp loyed for hardwood identification and data storage/retrieval (macro an d microscopic wood structure, physical and chemical features, botanica l, trade and local names, geographic origin etc.). Tests revealed that the system is powerful, versatile, and flexible. A German language ve rsion has been integrated into the system and can be made available to interested users upon request. The future development of the system i s ensured by the authors in close cooperation with the program develop ers and an international working group of program users.
