Abstract
The safe surgical treatment of patients with peripheral vascular disea se mandates cost effective yet purposeful assessment of cardiac risk i n the preoperative period, as well as skillful perioperative managemen t. This article reviews both the sensitivity and specificity of common ly used diagnostic tests and relates these data to the outcome from va rious types of vascular reconstructions.
