Right atrial thrombus formation is a rare complication of central veno
us catheterization in adults, Infection of this thrombus is exceptiona
l. A case of a right atrial thrombus associated with Candida albicans
infection is described. Surgical thrombectomy, withdrawal of the cathe
ter, and long-term antiinfectious therapy seem the only appropriate tr
eatment. The literature on this unusual condition is reviewed.
