B. Korch et al., USE OF A VC ROLL IN A 4-HIGH COLD-ROLLING REVERSING MILL - EXPERIENCEAND OPERATIONAL RESULTS, Stahl und Eisen, 115(7), 1995, pp. 65-69
The production trials showed that the shrink fit of the sleeve transmi
ts, slip-free, not only the dynamic loads resulting from the rolling f
orce; but also very high torques. During rolling it is possible to adj
ust the crown of the VC roll as a function of the inner oil pressure.
The installation of the VC roll does not require any modifications to
the roll housing. The series of trials demonstrated that the effects o
f work roll bending and VC roll on strip flatness suitably complement
one another, as is documented by the measurement of the tensile stress
distribution. It has thus been possible to reduce the frequency of wo
rk roll crown grinding by two-thirds. The frequency of strip breakage
has also been reduced. Furthermore, rolling performances have been inc
reased and strip flatness improved.
