The histological, immunocytochemical, and ultrastructural features of
an intrasellar neuronal choristoma associated with pituitary growth ho
rmone (GH)producing adenoma are reported. Immunohistochemistry studies
and electron microscopy examination showed the adenoma cells to be po
sitive for GH but negative for prolactin, and the neurons of the chori
stoma to have GH-releasing factor (GRF) neurosecretory activity. The a
denoma also had many amyloid deposits in its extracellular space immun
oreactive to GRF. This is the first report of the tumor containing amy
loid deposits. HUM Copyright (C) 1995 by W.B. Saunders Company.
