This study was undertaken to describe the most common symptoms experie
nced during pregnancy by couples with a history of infertility and to
compare them with symptoms of expectant couples without a history of r
eproductive problems, The Symptomatology Inventory, a 42-item checklis
t of common pregnancy symptoms, was used. The 10 most frequent symptom
s reported and their rank order were very similar for the women from b
oth groups, Men from the two groups frequently reported similar sympto
ms, but differed on their rank order. This research provides evidence
that in terms of pregnancy symptoms infertile and fertile couples are
more alike than they are different.
