Abstract
A method is presented for the construction of Wentzel-Kramers-Brilloui n (WKB) wave functions that avoids explicit consideration of any match ing between results pertaining to classically allowed and forbidden re gions. The formalism is based on the maximization of a suitable define d quantal pseudoentropy, subject to the constraints posed by the expec tation values of a reduced number of operators, which are evaluated ac cording to special WKB techniques. A self-consistent procedure is deve loped that simultaneously yields the nodes of the wave function and th e information theory parameters.
