NOVEL POLYMERS CONTAINING FLUORESCEIN MOIETIES

Novel fluorescein-containing polymers and copolymers derived from nove l fluorescein-containing bis-acetylene 3 were synthesized by oxidative coupling. A novel fluorescein-containing polyester was obtained by th e direct polycondensation of fluorescein. All polymers synthesized wer e semicrystalline as observed from X-ray diffractometry but formed fil ms of good optical quality when cast from solution. All the polymers s ynthesized showed luminescence both in solution and the solid state an d exhibited third order nonlineal optical susceptibility of the order 10(-10)esu.
