The North American Truffling Society (NATS), founded in 1978, has memb
ers across North America as well as on other continents. It conducts a
continuing program on truffles and truffle-like fungi: forays, scient
ific studies, education, and culinary use. Taxonomic and ecological da
ta on the more than 4,500 collections by members are entered into a da
ta base available to scientists studying these fungi. This paper intro
duces the NATS series on descriptions of new taxa and presentation of
new data on previously described taxa.
