Rk. Anderson et Jl. Carpenter, SEVERE PRURITUS ASSOCIATED WITH LYMPHOMA IN A DOG, Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 207(4), 1995, pp. 455-456
A dog with chronic pruritus that was refractory to antibiotic, cortico
steroid, and antihistamine treatment was found to have lymphoma involv
ing the spleen and associated lymph nodes. Pruritus rapidly resolved o
n removal of the tumor and recurred on reappearance. The association o
f generalized pruritus with an occult malignant process may be difficu
lt to assess, but after excluding the more common causes of pruritus,
a visceral malignancy should be considered.
